HEREDIA & THE CENTRAL VALLEY
Coffee is the at Heart of this Region
Heredia is the smallest province in the country with a population of 75,000, but that doesn’t stop it from being a popular attraction due to its many coffee plantations where visitors get the chance to learn about the cultivation and processing of the ubiquitous bean.
In fact, Britt, the most famous coffee company in Costa Rica calls the province home and offers tours to thousands every year. If you are looking to learn about how one of Costa Rica’s major exports makes it from the plantation to your local grocers, a visit to Heredia is a must.
Experience Heredia’s Natural Wonders
Heredia is much more than just coffee. The province is home to the Barva volcano, situated in the west part of Braulio Carrillo National Park. The area is ideal for those who would like to take part in activities such as birdwatching and hiking. One of the busiest highways bisects the area which is why it is so astonishing that the surrounding area was kept in such pristine condition, preserving such an important wildlife habitat.
Another interesting attraction in the province of Heredia is the Sarapiqui river which keeps the area so lush and verdant. The river valley is home to many species, some of which are endangered, and offers amazing adventure opportunities such as rafting or tubing the rapids.
