But it also has a chic, classy side. San José, the country’s capital is steadily transforming itself into a must-visit for foodies, especially since inventive chefs have been opening new restaurants and bars there. The city is also home to many a craft brewery.

And if you’re looking for a bit of relaxation, there’s no better place to go than a luxurious beach resort or a spa in the Arenal/ La Fortuna area at one of the country’s many hot springs. You can get yourself a nice tan, enjoy a professional massage, go snorkeling and surfing, or relax in a thermal pool, all in one trip.

The best weather in Costa Rica is usually between December and April, but the Caribbean coast of the country is a great place to visit even in October.

Its National Parks are World Renowned

Costa Rica boasts 30 national parks and has a claim to around five percent of the world’s biodiversity. Hiking through one of Costa Rica’s wildlife preserves is one of the most popular activities in the country, especially in Poas Volcano National Park, where you can see the stunning crater lake.

Costa Rica is home to more than 60 volcanoes, five of which are still active. Arenal Volcano is one of the most popular attractions in the country, especially for hiking enthusiasts or those looking to soak in the soothing geothermal hot springs. 

It’s the Hummingbird Capital of the World

Costa Rica is already a wonderful place for avid twitters, but it’s especially great for those wanting to catch a glimpse of one of the 50 different species of hummingbirds that are native to the land. Some of the types of birds you could encounter include the coppery-headed emerald, the violet saber wing, the coppery-headed emerald, and the magenta-throated woodstar.
